Critical State — Calanthe Press (2022)

B.R. Dionysius read from his latest work Critical State, published by Calanthe Press. The collection is an evocative tour of Queensland, engaging deeply with place and the interactions between humans and the natural world — birds extinct, endangered and otherwise feature throughout.

Critical State was officially launched with a speech by Vanessa Page, poet and author of Botanical Skin (Calanthe Press, 2021). The collection — B.R. Dionysius’ ninth — maps the ecology of Queensland from top to tip, with poems spanning 2010 to 2021 on habitat loss, species extinction, and resilience in the face of environmental destruction. Published by Calanthe Press.
